History

CEX.IO started operations in 2013 in the United Kingdom. Initially positioned as a cloud mining platform, it quickly shifted to cryptocurrency trading. In 2014 CEX.IO was one of the first to support USD and EUR deposits and withdrawals via bank transfers.

In 2016 the exchange obtained an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license in the UK, allowing expanded fiat operations. In 2019 CEX.IO launched staking and a loyalty program. Leveraged trading and a mobile app were added in 2020.

CEX.IO has survived several market cycles and maintained its reputation through a conservative risk management approach. In 2022 the exchange halted new user registrations from Russia due to sanctions. The company continues operations focusing on the European market.
